Description

Goddess of Desert and the Gerudo - Sunare

The hot-headed lone wolf goddess of the desert, Sunare is well-known for being strong-willed and powerful, and for her strong disdain for the male gender. The only male she shows any care for is Koboku, although she is known to have a soft spot for Jabun and Volvagia as well. She harbors a strong hatred for Seiryu, to the point that she would kill him in an instant if given the chance. It is for that reason that she and Seiryu remain at the opposite ends of Hyrule, as far away from each other as possible.

Sunare chose the desert as her domain, knowing that the natural elements, the sharp contrast in temperature from day to night, would serve to bring her and her creations strength. Initially, she created the Gerudo as a female-only race, even using what little magic she had to enchant their bloodlines so that only females would be born to their race. However, the problem arose that, without males, the bloodlines, and thus the race itself, would thin out and vanish. To prevent this from happening, she allowed for one male to be born every one hundred years, so that the bloodline could be preserved. To her distaste, however, the Gerudo made a law amongst themselves that each male born would become the king amongst them. Once the Gerudo were given time to adapt to their environment, Sunare left them to fend for themselves, preferring to seek isolation in the desert temple that had been constructed in her name and image, and watch them from afar.

Sunare was always impressed by the males of the Gerudo, as each one brought the Gerudo peace and prosperity, especially in times of need. Ganondorf himself was no different, leading the Gerudo in a time of great need, in the duration and immediate aftermath of the great war between the people of Hyrule. However, the war had twisted his heart and left him with only hatred for the world, and with the desire for revenge came the desire for power, and that was how his evil legacy began. Being bound by divine law to never interfere with the lives of their creations, Sunare could only watch as the events unfolded, and Hyrule was devastated by the evil that claimed Ganon's heart.

Sunare is always shown as a woman of exceptional beauty and strength, and it is believed that the Gerudo were made in her image. As such, she is shown dressed in Gerudo regalia, usually in shades of dark red or orange, and wearing gold jewelry, with a large yellow-orange garnet set in her head ornament. Her divine symbol is proudly displayed throughout the Gerudo fortress, showing their devout loyalty to their goddess.
